André Sapir is a Belgian economist and Senior Fellow at Bruegel. He is also professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Research Fellow of the London-based Centre for Economic Policy Research. From 1990 to 2004, he served as Economic Advisor to the Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission and then as Prinicipal Economic Advisor to President Prodi. He also holds a PhD in economics from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
